iPage Webmail
As people own more technological devices and not only use different computers at work and at home, but may also regularly use mobile devices, tablets, laptops, etc., webmail has become a virtual necessity (pun intended). Webmail differs from email management through an email client in several ways. First, webmail can be accessed from anywhere, requiring only Internet access. Second, webmail viewing does not download the mail, so you can view webmail on a machine you do not own and, if you choose, leave the webmail in place for later access on whichever device from which you like to control your email client.

For a variety of reasons, email clients have more management options than webmail, including the ability to allow you to compose mail offline, to schedule email download and sending, and to interface with other programs you may have.
When you switch email clients, you can import your mail into your new email client from the older client. You can use multiple webmail programs, but they don’t interact.
Introduction to iPage Webmail
All iPage accounts include iPage webmail automatically, as well as POP3 and IMAP email accounts. There are several iPage webmail clients that you can use.
iPage Webmail How-To’s
Here are some hints about using iPage webmail:
You have a choice of iPage webmail clients. These include:
• SquirrelMail—SquirrelMail, which is referenced twice in the movie The Social Network, is free open-source software, with the latest version in March 2011 being 1.4.21, which came out in July 2010. iPage provides you with 5 SquirrelMail plug-ins, including AddressBook import and export, a Calendar backend, HTML mail, image buttons, and one called ‘Unsafe Image Rules.’ You can find help for SquirrelMail by logging into SquirrelMail through the Help button, which looks like a lifesaver. The ‘Table of Contents’ provides a list of help topics. The User’s Manual can also be directly accessed through the SquirrelMail website. There is a known issue with access to SquirrelMail requiring a double log-in through the Internet Explorer browser. This is not the case in Firefox, for example.
There are two completely different ways to access your iPage webmail if you are using SquirrelMail:
• From your iPage web hosting account:
1. Go to your web hosting account control panel and log-in.
2. Go to MailCentral.
3. Click the ‘Edit’ button for the mailbox you want to check.
4. When the ‘Address Management’ page displays, expand the ‘Mailbox Delivery’ section.
5. Click the ‘Webmail’ icon. The client you have chosen—in this case SquirrelMail—will open.
• Without going through your iPage web hosting account:
1. Go to the ‘webmail’ subdomain of your primary domain:
http://webmail.primarydomainname replacing <primarydomainname> with the name of the hosting account primary domain that you set in DomainCentral, including the Top-Level Domain (TLD), for example, .com, .net, .org
2. Log-in.
• AtMail—AtMail is a paid open-source webmail client that is paid for by web hosts, ISPs, etc. and generally supplied free to their clients. The name is a joke on the @ used in email addresses, sometimes referred to as the “at sign.” It includes IMAP support, a web-based addressbook and calendar, and support for inline PDF attachments. AtMail is capable of being synchronized with Outlook if you have chosen to configure Outlook to access your AtMail account(s). This is done by first running the WebMail-sync installation utility, which will create a ‘Webmail Sync’ button on your toolbar when you restart Outlook. More details are available in the ‘Using AtMail as your webmail client’ article in the iPage knowledgebase. To get help from within AtMail, log-in to AtMail and select ‘Help’ from the main menu bar. If you need to access your webmail using an older browser (FireFox 3 on either Windows or Mac), problems can arise if the setting ‘Advanced Interface (Mozilla)’ has been selected. This is remedied by changing to a different interface setting. Details are in the knowledgebase article referenced above.
As with SquirrelMail, there are two ways to access your iPage AtMail account:
• From your iPage web hosting account:
1. Go to your hosting account control panel and log-in.
2. Go to MailCentral.
3. Click the ‘Edit’ button for the mailbox you want to check.
4. When the ‘Address Management’ page displays, expand the ‘Mailbox Delivery’ section.
5. Click the ‘Webmail’ icon. The client you have chosen—in this case AtMail—will open.
